Fringe Masonry
by Brother Angel Millar
Prior to the 18th century, magic was largely a solo pursuit. With the emergence of Freemasonry during that century, however, Orders claiming to practice Rosicrucianism, alchemy, and other arcane arts emerged. Most of these claimed to be legitimately Masonic. Others, such as the Order of the Gold and Rosy Cross, only admitted Freemasons as members. Although most of these Orders and their rituals died out, they ultimately shaped modern ritual magic, especially via the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and the OTO. In this talk, Angel Millar will explore the rise of "Fringe Masonry" and its long-ignored influence on the world of contemporary "magic."
Holy Saints John
by Timothy W. Hogan
On Saint John the Baptist Day in June, Freemasons have always celebrated the Craft, and they have made this one of two days out of the year where two imminent patrons of Masonry are celebrated (the other being John the Evangelist Day in December). Few Masons consider why these two John's are being celebrated though, and what their symbolic significance is, beyond these feast days being during the time of the solstices. In fact, technically speaking, the patron saint of stone masons is Saint Stephen, so why do we focus on the two Johns? This presentation will examine what the role of the Holy Saints John, emphasized even in most Masonic obligations, and brought into full clarity.
